blktap-utils software package provides utilities to work with VHD disk images files, you can install in your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install blktap-utils
blktap-utils is installed in your system.
Make ensure the blktap-utils package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep blktap-utils *
You will get with blktap-utils package name, version, architecture and description in a table
